Nusantara Arts welcomes you to explore with us an exciting series of new compositions, performed for the very first time outside of Indonesia. During covid, Nusantara Arts commissioned 12 new major works by seasoned Javanese masters as well as newcomers. The compositions are an interesting array of tunes, that range from the traditional to contemporary. We will perform 5 of these new compositions, including Sinugraha / Suka Sokur by world renowned gamelan master I.M Harjito, who will be Joining Nusantara Arts for the performance.

Pak I.M Harjito is one of the finest living Javanese gamelan musicians. A graduate of Indonesia’s state conservatory for the traditional performing arts, he worked closely with one of the major figures of 20th Century Javanese music, Martopangrawit. He is known for his many unique compositions, including traditional and experimental works. He has directed gamelan ensembles in Indonesia and the U.S. He is currently on faculty at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

Donate to Nusantara Arts Balinese Gamelan Fund!

Since Nusantara Arts humble beginnings as Buffalo Gamelan Club in 2016, our efforts have been focused solely on performing and teaching Central Javanese gamelan music.

We are now announcing a major addition to Nusantara Arts mission and abilities, and we need your help to make it happen!

A generous out of state donor is giving an entire set of bronze Balinese gamelan instruments to Nusantara Arts this year! These instruments from Bali represent a musical culture, sound, and theory completely different than what we have presented or practiced before in Buffalo.

The only catch is... we need to get them here! The instruments are currently in New Mexico. With your help we will raise the $5,000 needed to cover the costs of shipping these instruments to Buffalo, to be put into use this fall.

Please make a tax deductible donation to Nusantara Arts today to help this major project and expansion of our activities a reality.
