10 week sliding scale music class for participants of all musical skill levels and backgrounds

We would like to invite you to join our Spring/Summer 7 week introductory educational gamelan music class. The goal of the class is to get participants more fluent in gamelan terminology, more comfortable on several instruments, and familiar with a variety of gamelan compositions! This is a class appropriate for beginners who have finished our Introductory Gamelan Course, Intermediate, and advanced musicians who are interested in learning about Indonesian gamelan music and culture. By the end of the 7 week class class participants will be able to play 3-4 new gamelan music compositions on several instruments. By registering for this class participants are also open to join our regular community gamelan classes which are held Sunday and Wednesday from 7-9:30 pm.

Class Topics will include but are not limited to:

  1. Pelog and Slendro Pathet theory
  2. Gendhing, ketawang, lancaran, Sampak/Srepeg song forms
  3. Wayang Kulit song forms and drum cues
  4. Demung interlocking Imbal and kinthilan techniques

Classes are Every Sunday starting February 6th, from 5-7pm

Only Fully Vaccinated Individuals may join class at this time. All participants must wear a mask in the facility.

For participants age 13 and higher

Sliding scale class fee for 7 sessions and optional community gamelan classes.

When choosing your sliding scale rate, please keep in mind that Nusantara Arts depends on the generosity of its community to support high caliber artists and programming.
